In the Ultimate version of the game, the board is greatly expanded, introducing new features that add to the strategic and tactical complexity. Unlike the traditional 3x3 tic-tac-toe, the Ultimate version consists of a larger board made up of 9 mini-boards, each containing 3x3 cells. This results in a total of 81 cells, in contrast to just 9 in the Classic version. Each mini-board functions as an independent 3x3 grid, but they are interconnected, allowing for a myriad of strategic and tactical options. Winning a mini-board influences the overall game situation on the larger board, compelling players to rely on not just intuition but also the ability to predict their opponent's moves.
